Region Description
(er mee tahj)—The vineyards of this Rhone Valley appellation have been producing classic, inky-black wines for more than half a millennium. Syrah is the only grape used in these tannic reds. Often tough when young, they can mature into wonderfully complex concoctions with essences of raspberries, blackberries, pepper, and smoke.
